Ontbijten in UdenOver 100 years of history: From Monastery to Hotel

In 1882 Father Spierings - a real ‘construction priest’ as it turned out – built the former rectory of the Petrus Church in Uden. The Petrus Church was affected by a disaster in 1886 and burned to the ground. Reconstruction of this Church was too costly and Father Spierings decided to built a new Church a little further down Kapelstraat. Because the Father did not want to walk a long way to the new church every day, he also built a new rectory at the new church.

Franciscan Sisters

In 1909 the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception of the Holy Mother of God from Veghel bought the rectory of Father Spierings in order to lead the villages’ education of girls. At that moment the stately buildings’ function was a boarding school, where eventually as many as 23 sisters had their home.

Religious and Spiritual Life

In the early 80s the building was converted into a community of young girls with a clearly focused interest in the religious life. Later on, the building at the Kapelstraat turned into a foundation of a spiritual community based on simplicity, integrity and commitment.

Now, more than 100 years after Father Spierings built the foundation of this monastery, your host opens the doors to the general public. The buildings former purpose has changed, but the old atmosphere is still present. Past and present are not separatable and therefore choosing a good name for this hotel in the heart of Uden was not difficult: 't Klooster Uden (Monastery).
